From App to Attendee: How Build an App Factory Brought the Black & Kinky Academy 2026 Conference to Life
A Custom Conference App, Built From the Ground Up
Build an App Factory is proud to share one of our most exciting builds yet: the official conference app for Black & Kinky Academy (BKA) 2026, a Chicago-based conference centered on community, education, and connection, held July 9–12, 2026. The app is live and available for download on both the Apple App Store and Google Play.
BKA isn't just an event; it's a movement for education, connection, and empowerment. Our job was to build a digital experience that matched that energy. The result is a custom mobile app that supports attendees before, during, and after the event while providing organizers, presenters, vendors, and sponsors a stronger, more connected platform than a physical conference alone could offer.
What the App Solves
Without a centralized app, conference attendees often piece together scattered schedules, miss key sessions, and struggle to network or find vendors. The BKA app brings everything into one intuitive hub:
Full Event Schedule: Over 40 sessions searchable by time and category, with the ability to bookmark favorites to a personalized "My Schedule."
Session Details: Workshop descriptions, presenter highlights, room locations, and times in one clean view.
Community Feed: A live, in-app social feed where attendees post photos and videos, comment, and connect in real time throughout the weekend.
Vendors & Sponsors: Dedicated spaces for vendor listings and featured sponsor placements, giving partners high visibility inside the app rather than relying solely on a booth in a hallway.
Event Info: Hotel details, transportation schedules, meal package information, and accessibility resources—all accessible in one tab.
We Didn't Just Build It, We Were There
One of the most rewarding parts of this project was attending BKA 2026 in Chicago to watch the app come to life in the hands of real attendees. Seeing people check their schedules, post to the community feed, and find their next session using a tool we built was an incredible full-circle moment. The event was a huge success, and the app played a pivotal role in keeping it organized, connected, and easy to navigate.
Built to Last Beyond One Weekend
The BKA app wasn't built as a single-use tool. It is designed as a reusable digital asset that can:
Support future BKA events year after year
Expand into a year-round community platform
Serve as an ongoing hub for education, resources, and networking
Unlock new revenue streams for BKA through premium sponsor placements, featured vendor listings, and expanded visibility options
What's Next: Version 2
Following a successful launch and strong turnout at the live event, Build an App Factory is currently developing Version 2 of the BKA app. By analyzing real attendee feedback and usage patterns from the 2026 conference, we are refining the user experience and expanding what this platform can deliver for the BKA community.
About the Build
The BKA app was designed and developed by Rachelle Jones (Ford), founder of Build an App Factory, a self-taught developer who crafts custom digital systems for communities and businesses using Flutter and Firebase.
